Zakaatul-Fitr,
the charity of breaking the fast, is obligatory on each Muslim young or
old, male or female, rich or poor, if he owns extra food that exceeds
the needs of him and his dependents for a period of twenty-four hours. A
Muslim should pay on his behalf and on the behalf of his dependents
that he supports such as his wife and children, etc.
You can pay $10 per person. Zakaatul-Fitr can be given anytime during Ramadan, however, it must be given before the Eid prayer. Zakaatul-Fitr is given to poor Muslims, whose income is less than their basic needs.
May
Allah (swt) keep us on the right path, and accept our fasting and
prayers. Ameen.
